Meet Me at the Summit was the theme for the Spring 2017 District 45 Conference that was held May 19 through May 21 at the Grand Resort Hotel, Sunday River, in Bethel, Maine. It was a great opportunity to meet other clubs’ members and make personal, as well as, professional connections.
Part I: Friday Evening, May 19
One of the first traditional events of the semi-annual district conference is the “First Timers Reception. This spring, Bangor Toastmasters’ club members Paula and Jim Baines chaired the event. They kicked off the event with a Table Topics qualifier ending with two rounds of contestants competing for top score in a home version of Press Your Luck. Press Your Luck was based on a 1980’s American Television game show. First-timers were randomly selected by a draw of the numbers; they then challenged each other with the off the cuff and impromptu answers to some interesting Table Topics questions, such as, what children’s film still scares you today as an adult, or if you bought a yacht with lottery winnings, what would you name it. The First Timers event was held in the lovely hospitality suite.
Friday night festivities continued with the opening ceremony and the Flags. Afterwards, members and guests enjoyed Friday fun night activities that including singing, talent, and Table Topics slide karaoke. Ending the evening with many people visiting the hospitality suite.
